Meat is Meat – "Nyama ni nyama," Cassi A. Namoda's exhibition's title draws on mapiko memories from Mozambique's folkloric morality masquerades in the tradition of the Makonde artist Nampyonoyo's legendary performance art. "Everyone who wanted could join the dance. It is called meat-is-meat because the meat of this lineage, the meat of that lineage, they can be mixed. I answer, you answer he answers. From where you come I don't know. But you prepare the mask with me, Wa! Nyama ni nyama."
Cassi introduces Afropologies from her lineage to ours. In part two of the show, Our Nightly Bread, she renders the night-kitchen photojournalism of Ricardo Rangel, an expo of metropolitan Maputo's Love for Sale scene, in terms George Grosz would appreciate: Nyama ni nyama."
