One Hundred Models and Endless Rejects is an exhibition catalogue of drawings by South African artist, Marlene Dumas. These drawings are an antihierarchical subversion of orderly standards of beauty, traversing the line between affirmation and protest. According to Dumas, ''what interested me was to make a statement about peoples' frames of mind and the relationships between them.'' Dumas is always seeking to initiate new thought processes and critical strategies.

“Combining the particular and the universal perspectives of human actions and ambiguities, Dumas layers visual and verbal information fraught with stark oppositions and subtle meanings. Even in this age of explicit violence and sexuality, Marlene Dumas’ drawings and paintings startle and shock. The frankness of her images - masses of faces and graphically provocative figures = are directly confrontational. One Hundred Models and Endless Rejects fills our galleries with female imagery and poses the question of what makes one woman a model and another a reject. Uncomfortable as both the question and the art may be, the force, complexity, and virtuosity of Dumas’ art sweeps us into new and important terrain.”
