Calling All Divas
Opening Reception: Friday, August 10, 2018
OOF Books is pleased to present "Calling All Divas": a solo show featuring the work of artist Tyler Matthew Oyer.
In this installation, Oyer’s poems are reflections on / conversations with queer, femme, HIV+ radical inspiring individuals. This edition is made up of poems for Kembra Pfahler, Ron Athey, Nina Simone, James Baldwin, Paul Thek, Grace Jones + Keith Haring, Jack Smith, Charles Ludlam, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Federico García Lorca, and David Wojnarowicz. These works dance with themes of legacy, inheritance, loss, fandom, idol worship, archiving and tenderness.
The screening includes works that broaden the methods of these imaginings across artistic practices that engage “impossible” queer dialogues and imaginings. Perhaps an impossible dialogue is always already queer?
